Omiyage is commonly translated as "souvenir(s)" in English but the concept of omiyage is slightly different to a souvenir. Whilst both involve obtaining a local product from the place of visit, the difference comes in their intended purpose: A souvenir is meant to be kept and enjoyed by the buyer alone, but an omiyage is actually meant to be given away and enjoyed by/with others.
Here are some photos of souvenirs I found in Japan:
A product obviously aimed at foreign visitors - even my Japanese friends have no idea what it is.
Orange flavoured KitKat!
Hello Kitty products are very common.
A special gift-wrapped wooden fan made in Kyoto.
An inkan ("personal seal") used like (or with) a signature on important documents. Nearly every Japanese has one. I couldn't resist getting one for myself too.
